How to Tuesday: Girl meets Grill

With spring lurking and summer around the corner we have our BBQ's ready and our forks in hand. As you may have realized all food is not created equally therefore I have your How To Guide for the healthiest grilling choices when it comes to meat!

These are based on 3-4 oz. portions.

You want to look for "round" or "loin" cuts, such as top sirloin, ground round and tenderloin.

Good Choice: Beef Tenderloin
(~ 218 calories and 9 grams fat)

Better Choice: Top Sirloin
(~ 207 calories and 7 grams fat)

Burgers can be a healthy option. Just avoid your high calorie bun, cheese and pounds of mayo and you'll be great!

Good Choice: Turkey Burger
(~ 266 calories and 15 grams fat)

Better Choice: Ground Sirloin
(~ 244 calories and 12 grams fat)

Grilled chicken obviously a fabulous summer protein choice!

Better Choice: Tyson Frozen or Fresh Chicken Breast
(~ 110 calories and 2 grams fat)

Grilling Tips

• To keep meat juicy, trim the fat off after cooking, and let the meat rest a couple of minutes before cutting into it.

• Marinate chicken over night or for a few hours in italian dressing, pineapple juice, teriyaki sauce, etc. It will add flavor with less calories.

• Brush on a couple of tablespoons of BBQ sauce on your chicken before grilling for just 40 calories.

• Don't press your spatula into your burgers unless you like eating rubber!
