Jessica Simpson and her BFF CaCee and BFF/hairstylist Ken will travel the globe to discover what makes a women feel beautiful in different cultures. This episode they headed to Thailand to discover what was considered beautiful in that part of the world, and the price women paid to embody that.
In Thailand that included getting a Thai massage that is good for your circulation, and it seemed as though there was a knee or elbow all over them. Jessica eats a fried cockroach for its beauty-boosting amino acids. She visits a cosmetics counter where she learns that women in Thailand actually bleach their skin, which is the opposite of the tan standard celebrities like Jessica promote here in the U.S. They even talked to a lady who had tried these bleaching creams and it basically destroyed her skin, and made it fall off. Her husband ended up leaving her, and she no longer sings because she doesn't want to be seen. :/
They visit with a Buddhist monk to learn about the Buddist concept of beauty -- which essentially comes down to "it's what's on the inside that counts."
Later on, the trio learns that women in Thailand layer brass rings around their necks to elongate them. Jessica notes, "That is definitely a price to pay to be beautiful."
The show was very interesting, and really made me think of "The Price of Beauty". Here we see a magazine, and want to look like that airbrushed model. She's usually tan, missing some ribs, and rail thin. Yet in Thailand being tan shows that you are lower class, and that you should bleach your skin. Bleaching your skin can completely ruin it.
I absolutely love the theme song for the show it's called "Who we are" and it's by JS herself. Check it out here! It's absolutely beautiful.
Did you watch the show? What did you think?
What do you value most about yourself?
