Spa lingo decoded

If you want to walk the walk, first you've gotta talk the talk.


• body image - aware of your body in terms of its relationship to your emotional, spiritual and physical health.

• detoxification - this process includes anything that cleanses the body of accumulated poisons. Good detoxifiers include mud baths and yoga.

• emotional cleansing - this includes anything that promotes the healing and health of your psychological state. Meditation is a great emotional cleanser.

• esthetician - this is the lovely lady we kiss up to and tip well. We literally put our face in her hands. She can clear your skin right up and give you amazing facials! Need some waxing she's your girl.


• extractions - extractions during a facial are something you love, hate or tolerate for the sake of beauty. Basically they are when a professional squeezes your pimples. Extractions are a procedure that your aesthetician or dermatologist performs to unclog pores and bring sebum to the skin's surface. It's usually very painful.

• spa - means "the cure of water," the spa allows us girls to get in touch with ourselves. We want to make ourselves feel better or make others jealous of us ;)

• spa cuisine - this menu is specially designed by the chef to emphasize your spa experience. Spa chefs prepare fresh and natural foods low in fat and cholesterol. Expect whole grains, low-fat dairy, lean proteins, fish, vegetables and fresh fruit.


•tai chi - tai chi is an ancient Chinese self-enhancement technique it includes slow, deep breathing through movements to relax the muscles and joints while strengthening the body from the inside.


• toxic - This refers to any food, thing, person or situation that is throwing you off balance.

• yoga - uses special positions and breath control to stretch and tone the body, improve circulation, calm the nerves and brings you to a meditative state of mind.
