How To: get the most out of your strawberries

Buying Strawberries
• Visit a farm, roadside stand or farmers market to get strawberries at their peak.
• In the store, look for strawberries that are plump, firm and colorful. Don't forget to turn berry cartons over to check for moldy or mushy berries before you buy.
• Strawberries perish quickly; purchase them when you plan to use them.

Storing Strawberries
• Wait until you use the berries to wash them. Unwashed berries stay fresh longer.
• Store berries loosely covered in the refrigerator
• If you can’t use the berries right away, freeze them.

{Patriotic Jell-O Cake}

Patriotic Jell-O Cake

Ingredients:
1 large package red Jell-O
12 oz pound cake, sliced into 10 pieces
1.5 c. blueberries
4 c. fresh strawberries, halved
1.5 cups boiling water
Ice cubes
Cold water
8 oz cool whip

Preparation:
Combine the Jello and boiling water and stir until dissolved. Add enough ice to the water to make 2 cups and pour this into the Jell-O mixture. Stir until the ice melts then refrigerate until thickened.

Line the bottom of a 13 x 9 inch dish with sliced pound cake. Slice one cup of the strawberries and add these, along with a cup of the blueberries, to the Jell-O and stir. Spoon this mixture over the cake.

Chill for 4 hours or until firm, then spread the cool whip over the Jell-O. Arrange the blueberries on top for stars and the strawberry halves on top to make the stripes.

This will keep in the refrigerator for a few days.

Enjoy!

confidence boost

I am a girly girl... I like to dress up, get my nails and hair done and just be pampered in general. When I first started running I didn't feel like a girl. As a matter of fact it seemed to bring me down. I felt boyish, and not like myself. I wore headbands with large flowers or bows on them, and would try to wear as much pink as possibly.

Then I came across the greatest thing ever... running skirts! It would be the perfect solution to my drab outfits!

I got this super adorable running skirt from Zensah. It made me feel girly, and powerful. I felt more confident when it came to running.

Honestly how cute is this Zensah Running Skirt?

While I am no where near the best runner... I struggle with it a lot! Shoes can change a girls life, and a simple running skirt can as well. I have gotten confidence with my running, and within myself. It may not all be from the skirt, but the skirt helped a lot! Tomorrow I will be embarking on my VERY FIRST 5K! It's scary and exciting all at the same time! I am not doing it for the time... I am doing it for the sake of being able to do something and achieve a goal.

Even Audrina likes running skirts!

Have you ever come across something that just gave you that extra boost of confidence?

Installing the Sides

The first step to convincing someone that all these pieces may actually become a guitar is to glue kerfed lining to the soundboard edge of the sides (shown above). This notched mahogany lining curves easily around the bend of the side and is clamped / glued into place with a million little clamps. The kerfing actually provides the gluing surface between the sides and the top and back (side material itself is eventually routed away for binding, and thus makes for an impractical gluing surface).
Once the sides are kerfed, and the kerfing is leveled along the sanding board, the sides are trimmed at their ends and glued to the soundboard following the method described in the book. (Boards are placed along the top to prevent the clamps from crushing the sides, and the opposing side is set in p lace to level the boards).

And the rough final product (note: the sides are over sized and will be trimmed later; the same is true for the overhang of the soundboard).

Next I marked the final contour of the back and planed the sides down to their final height. The height at the headblock is approximately 1 inch lower than at the tailblock, so the back will have a longitudinal arch to it. Once planed, the mahogany kerfing that will join the back plate is glued in place (shown below).

Dinner
I recently had the opportunity to try a brand new frozen entrée from Wanchai Ferry, Beef and Broccoli.

The boy was having a bit of an Asian food craving so it was the perfect night to give the beef and broccoli a try. The Wanchai Ferry Beef & Broccoli came with beef strips, and an assortment of vegetables, including broccoli florets, red peppers and water chestnuts. It even includes rice and a rich brown sauce.

This Wanchai Ferry frozen entrée says that it feeds to people. It would probably feed two girls or be enough for me to have one night, and left over for the next night or lunch. However the entire bag, just fed the boy. I had a couple bites it was pretty delish. I will definitely be getting this anytime I have a Asian food craving, but I will have to remember to get two bags, because sharing a bag with the boy just won't work!

Wanchai Ferry and MyBlogSpark provided me with the opportunity to try out Wanchai Ferry Beef & Broccoli. They also provided me with information and a fabulous prize pack!
